PTR lookup and forward-confirmed reverse DNS
Find PTR records for a public IP address and check whether the returned hostnames resolve back to that address. Useful for mail server diagnostics.
Reverse DNS / PTR
Find PTR records for a public IP address and check whether the returned hostnames resolve back to that address. Useful for mail server diagnostics.
How to use this tool
Enter an IPv4 or IPv6 address. Reverse DNS maps an address to hostnames through the in-addr.arpa or ip6.arpa namespace. The tool then checks forward A or AAAA answers for up to three returned names and marks whether they include the original address.
Reading the results
A missing PTR record is not always a website problem, but mail receivers often use reverse DNS as one signal. A matching forward lookup does not prove an email is trustworthy. PTR records are normally managed by the address provider, separately from a domain’s ordinary DNS zone.
